Cabaret night raises £500 to fund Pride parade

A CABARET night raised over £500 towards putting on this summer’s Rotherham Pride.

The variety show at The Trades featured song, dance and comedy from professional performers and enthusiastic amateurs.

Triple Threat Burlesque performed four racy routines, while and Sheffield-based Stürike Comedy showcased their improv comedy mojo.

Solo singer Stevie Moore performed a set of swing hits, while drag king Jack Strap lip-synched to pop power ballads.

Saxophonist Sarah Potts kicked off a disco with soulful solos over club classics and dance organisers Dave Doyle and Krissy Moore, of community group RotherHop, showed off some swing dance on the rainbow-backed stage.

The event, which raised £514.95 for Rotherham Pride, was compered by Nic Harding and drag queen Cherry Ryder, of the Rotherham Pride committee.

Nic said: “We would like to thank all acts, who kindly donated their time, and of course The Trades for allowing us to use their fantastic venue and supporting the event.

“We would also like to thank everyone who bought a ticket and came along to raise funds for this year's Rotherham Pride.

“The money raised will help us to ensure that we can put on a free, family-friendly event for the LGBT+ community and their allies.”

She added: “This year we are looking forward to our first-ever parade and we will be introducing a young persons’ area to the event.

“We will also have a stage full of brilliant acts, with something for all tastes.”
