Be a buddy to black cats, urges animal sanctuary

AN animal sanctuary is urging people to spare a thought for black cats which have a harder time being rehomed.

Thornberry Animal Sanctuary, on Todwick Road in North Anston, hopes to get more people interested in black moggies around National Black Cat Day on October 27.

The animal sanctuary has found that black or black and white cats take 13 per cent longer than their more colourful counterparts to leave rescue centres.

Amongst the felines looking for a new home at Thornberry are Treacle and Pudding, two five-year old sisters who have been there since February.

Sheila Underwood, Thornberry Animal Sanctuary’s cattery manager, said: “Usually the gingers or tortoiseshells find a new home first but our black cats are just as beautiful and loving members of the family.

“People should come down to Thornberry to meet Treacle and Pudding and Cilla and the rest of the gang to fall in love for themselves.”

People interested in rehoming one of Thornberry’s cats, or other animals, can visit the Sanctuary from 11am to 3pm Tuesday to Sunday.
