Axe-wielding gunman in jewellery shop raid

POLICE are on the hunt for a man who raided a Rotherham Jewellers and fired a BB gun into a worker’s face.

The incident at Diamond Classic Gold on Church Street, happened around 3.45pm last Friday.

When the victim, a 56-year-old man, refused to co-operaten with the raider's demands, the offender fired a BB gun at his face, causing swelling and a small cut.

The attacker then pulled out an axe which he used to smash the display cabinets.

He grabbed a number of gold chains before making his escape towards the High Street.

The man is described as an 18-year-old Asian, between 5ft 3in and 5ft 5in tall.

He has a slim build, short spiky dark hair with patterns shaved into the sides.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened.
