Appeal for help with Rotherham war veterans collection

A MAN who has set up an organisation which aims to help war veterans is urging people to support a street collection this weekend (August 8) which is raising cash for the project.

Alistair Casey will be on Bridge Street in Rotherham from 10am to 4pm on Saturday to raise cash towards buying a house in Kiveton which can act as a lifeline for veterans suffering problems after leaving military life.

Former Sheffield soldier Mr Casey – who has experienced unemployment, homelessness, a marriage breakdown and emotional trauma since leaving the Army – decided to set up the South Yorkshire Veterans Hub to help other former soldiers in difficulty.

Mr Casey plans to do more street collections in Rotherham up to Christmas and has raised £800 in the last two months.

Other groups have also supported the Hub initiative, he said, as has Rotherham MP Sarah Champion.

Mr Casey said: “We cannot make the target without help so we are asking for help to raise the funds for this great cause.”
