Ale lovers go back to school to find top beers

BEER lovers will be going back to college next month in pursuit of some top class ales.

A college building is set to be transformed into Rotherham’s largest pub for three days only as members of Rotherham CAMRA prepare for their annual knees-up.

With 80 different varieties of real ales, ciders, perries, wines and world beers on offer, CAMRA has teamed up with Rotherham College to host the popular beer festival from October 27 to 29.

Taking place at the college’s Eastwood building, the event will feature beers from South Yorkshire breweries including Rotherham’s own Chantry Brewery, as well as ales from across the UK.

The festival will also feature two beers from South Yorkshire’s newest brewery, the Don Valley Brewery, which opened its doors this week (first week of Oct), as well as food and live music.

CAMRA chairman Steve Burns said: “We've got a new venue this year, but as usual we'll be showcasing a diverse range of beers from some of the best breweries found in Yorkshire and beyond.

“Moving the festival to Rotherham College will give a chance for many people to relive their school days and with plenty of live entertainment on offer, we’re hoping this year's event will offer something unique for every beer lover in the town to enjoy.”

Tickets priced £5 are available online at www.rotherhamcamra.org.uk or in person from the New York Tavern, Bridge Inn and the Bluecoat pubs in the town centre.
