Advertiser joins bid to make it a very happy Christmas

THE team behind a festive appeal to make Christmas more special for families in need has a new member—the Rotherham Advertiser.

We have joined the Toy Appeal being led by Rotherham’s Borough Council to collect presents and treats for underprivileged youngsters and their families.

You can now drop off your donations at our Rotherham town centre office in Wellgate.

Headed by staff from the council’s children and young people’s services department, the appeal team aim to beat last year’s delivery of food and toys to hundreds of needy children and families, as well as helping organisations such as Rotherham's children centres.

Advertiser editor Doug Melloy said that he was delighted to be able to support the appeal.

“Christmas is a time for giving and this is a great chance for everyone to give a little something to those in need,” he said.

Wrapped parcels should be marked with whether they are for a boy or a girl and what age child they would be suitable for.

Appeal organisers said that they would be particularly keen to receive presents suitable for teenage boys and unwrapped boxes and tins of sweets, biscuits and chocolates.

The Holiday Inn in Canklow and Rotherham Town Hall are also acting as drop-off points for parcels.

During the first week in December, council employees will be asked to bring tins of food to work or making cash donations which will be turned into Christmas Hampers ready for Christmas delivery.

The Advertiser’s Wellgate office is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
