Abbey students praised for “determination and focus”

STUDENTS at Abbey Special School were amongst those celebrating exam success this morning.

Deputy head teacher Luci Windle praised pupils’ “determination and focus” for completing two-year GCSE courses in just one year.

She said: “As a school we believe that our students have the potential and should have the same right to access GCSEs as their peers in mainstream schools.

“We are very proud of the positive GCSE results our students have gained. They worked really hard all year and we have been very impressed.”

Abbey has overhauled its curriculum over the last 18 months, offering the opportunity to take GCSEs including English Language.

The school aims to add further subjects for the coming academic year, including maths.

Ms Windle added: “As a school we encourage our students and their families to have high aspirations and then support them to achieve the future they deserve.

“This year’s success is just the beginning and we are looking forward to working together to achieve further success for all our students in the future.”
