A ‘woof’ night in the kennels

ANIMAL rescue volunteer Cindy Wainwright will give herself a woof ride on Christmas Eve when she spends the night in a dog kennel.

Cindy will dress up as a dog and spend 12 hours of the most festive night of the year with one of Thornberry Animal Sanctuary’s longest-standing residents, Flynn the Lurcher-cross, in a big-hearted bid to raise awareness of the charity.

The facility, off Todwick Road, North Anston, survives purely on donations and volunteer work and often feels the pinch during the festive season.

Cindy said: “People think I’m barking mad, but I love animals and I volunteer here at Thornberry.

“We really do need all the donations we can get, because the costs of running a place like this are sky-high.”

Cindy, who lives on-site at the sanctuary herself, added: “I thought getting dressed up might attract a little bit more publicity.

“Flynn has been here the longest out of any of the dogs, about two and a half years now, so I was hoping it would create a little bit of publicity for him too.

“I’d love to see him get a home —— he really is a lovely dog.”

Yard manager Hannah Briggs said: “The money raised will help the sanctuary a lot, with Christmas being such a busy time.

“In December we get a lot of older dogs in, with people making room for puppies and in January we get an influx of puppies, once the novelty has worn off.

“Cindy has chosen to sleep with Flynn because he has been with us three years in March, so it gets him some publicity too and hopefully we can find him a loving home.”
