Stag roundabout: council out of touch

Danger: the new Stag roundabout.

Sir-- I am writing to you about your article in the Rotherham Advertiser (January 13) regarding the Stag roundabout and all the changes that had happened.

The thing that amused me was when Rotherham Council stated that their computer simulations showed that there would be no issues with the crossing being so close to the exits off the roundabout.

It shows just how out of touch the Council are with regards to "road safety".

I use that roundabout on a regular basis and have witnessed on many occasions near misses, where people have just stepped out onto the road and nearly been run over.

What do you think? Use the "write a comment" buttons to post your views.

On several occasions I have also witnessed the old "rear ending" of cars when one has to stop quickly. How can the council who have ruined Bramley and Dinnington with their brainwave schemes for one way systems be trusted now to ensure the safety of Stag residents at this locaction.

I am sure that someone on a ridiculously large salary has sat in front of this "magic computer" and given it the go-ahead, with many pats on the back from people just as moronic as they are.

Why can't this council, who have also ruined Rotherham Town Centre see that when people (normal people) tell them that their ideas will not work, they really won't and to carry on blindly just makes them appear to us normal people, to be the overpaid, overpaid, clandestine, bumbling prats that they really are.

I totally agree, putting crossings so close to the roundabout is asking for trouble. It's bad enough on the approach to a busy island trying to keep an eye on the traffic without the having to watch for people crossing. I can understand it from a pedestrians point of view as it was difficult to cross from the doctors to the chemist but I really don't think the safety of everyone was considered enough when choosing where to place the crossings.

In every other part of the country councils are taking out zebra crossings because they pose more of a danger to pedestrians than other crossing types. That danger is only lessoned by the introduction of a speed hump just before the zebra to reduce vehicle speed. So why is Rotherham council introducing more zebra crossings.None of which have speed humps on approach. It's no good raising the crossing itself, cars need to be slower before they hit the pedestrian not as they hit them !!!
