Drink ban on would-be whiskey thief.

AN EDLINGTON man has been banned from drinking alcohol in Doncaster town centre after attempting to steal a bottle of whiskey.

Stuart Bartliff (46), of Princess Crescent, appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court charged with theft.

The court heard that under the influence of alcohol he had tried to steal a bottle of whiskey from a store on Church Way, Doncaster, and became verbally abusive towards a security guard who intervened.

He received a 12-month drink banning order (DBO), a £50 fine and £85 costs when he appeared on December 7.

The DBO prohibits him from being drunk or consuming alcohol in any public place and entering any public house or club licensed to serve alcohol within Doncaster town centre.

The order was requested by Doncaster’s anti-social behaviour team

Pc Jules Moss from the team said: “The DBO given to Bartliff will definitely have an impact at this time of year when people want to be out celebrating with friends and family.

“I hope this order makes him reflect on his behaviour.”
