A ROTHERHAM student has won a scholarship to fund her first year at university.
Rebecca Middleton (18) of Thomas Rotherham College was this year's winner of the Harold Bridges Memorial Scholarship.

The annual scholarship for university expenses is funded through a donation from Shirley Bridges, the widow of Harold Bridges, a distinguished former pupil of

Rotherham Grammar School. Mr Bridges’ career in science and business culminated in the post of President of Shell.

Now, Rebecca is going to study natural sciences at the University of Leeds after achieving five A grades in A-level biology, chemistry, mathematics, further mathematics and general studies.

She was presented with the cheque by the college’s chairman of governors John Bingham along with college principal Dr Richard Williams.

Dr Williams said: “Rebecca combined her academic success at college with a full commitment to the wider life of TRC as an excellent hockey player and articulate ambassador for the college.”
