It was a record year for several schools and the borough as a whole with the overall pass rate up six per cent on last year.

Among those celebrating were Thrybergh Comprehensive, which saw a 33.9 per cent increase in the proportion of pupils with five A* to C grades and a 19 per cent rise in those with five A* to C grades including English and maths.

Wath, with a 12.8 per cent increase in students achieving five A* to C results, and Clifton, with a 15 per cent rise, also enjoyed a bumper year.
