Cops' road haul - samurai swords, stolen trucks and heroin

A STOLEN truck and forklift truck worth £70,000 have been recovered from Dinnington.

The finds were part of a hectic two-week operation by South Yorkshire Police's Road Crime Unit, which has 38 people arrested.

The fortnight started with the unit recovering a kilogram of heroin from a car travelling from London to Sheffield.

It culminated with the arrest of a man for possession of six samurai swords, two daggers and a pair of nunchucks in his car. He had been originally stopped for breach of a court order.

Unit head inspector Simon Slack said: "The unit's job is to target serious criminals when they are at their most vulnerable, on the road, and, disrupt serious criminal activity.

"Thirty-eight arrests, recovery of stolen property, drugs and offensive weapons are all excellent results and the South Yorkshire public should be reassured that we proactively target known suspects to remove them from our communities and our roads.

"It also sends out a strong message to those who may think that their criminality will go undetected."
