FOUR Rotherham parks have won “Green Flag” awards as some of the best green spaces in the country.

Rother Valley Country Park, Kimberworth’s Bradgate Park, Rosehill Victoria Park at Rawmarsh and Thrybergh Country Park were among 70 parks in Yorkshire and Humberside to be granted Green Flag Award status.

Like the blue flag scheme for beaches, the Green Flag award scheme is the national standard for parks in the UK and recognises well-managed, high-quality areas.

Rotherham Borough Council’s Cabinet member for cultural services and sport, Iain StJohn, said: “It is fantastic news for Rotherham that yet another of our wonderful parks has passed the test and been given this fantastic accolade.

"Bradgate Park makes four awards in total, which is our most ever."
