Volunteers help Canklow Woods school children out with pond project.

KIND-hearted metalworkers ditched their day jobs last week to help children install pond plants and create a walkway.

Staff from London & Scandinavian in Templeborough headed to Canklow Woods Primary School to take part in Give & Gain Day, the UK's largest and only day of action for employee volunteers.

Employees from LSM joined an expected 6,000 others from 212 companies who are volunteering their time to help communities across the UK, injecting £1 million man hours into community projects.

Sponsored by Eversheds LLP, Give and Gain Day 2010 is dedicated to getting thousands of employees out of the office, store or factory to volunteer their time in their local community.

David Beare, LSM Group Aluminium Business Director said: “It is really motivating to get out of the office and be involved in a project that will have such a lasting impact in the local community. “Not only have we made a difference, but we have had great fun."

Last year, the firm donated much-needed cash to Canklow Woods Primary School to pay for enough interactive white boards for every class.
