Gain skills and confidence in South Yorkshire with Higher Technical Qualifications – apply now for 24/25

A new joint agreement has linked Sheffield Hallam University and four of South Yorkshire's Further Education colleges to meet the challenge of delivering much-needed skills across the region.

Barnsley College, DN Colleges Group, RNN Group, and The Sheffield College, are delivering new Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) in a joint move with the university to give learners the skills need in the job market.

The new level 4 and 5 qualifications lead learners from level 3 studies such as A levels or T Levels, and include qualifications such as higher national certificates, higher national diplomas, and foundation degrees. They are designed to provide the opportunity to enjoy good employment in well-paid careers. As well as students already in study, they also help adults looking for a change in career path. The first digital HTQs launched in September 2022 with 15 occupational due to be covered by 2025, with many any saying they will transform the educational landscape.

£1.3 million from the Government's Higher Technical Education Skills Injection Fund has been used to strengthen the delivery of these HTQs. They will support the regional pipeline of learners taking T Levels and other level 3 courses to progress onto level 4 and 5 courses and beyond, connecting too with the introduction of the Lifelong Learning Entitlement.

Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) offer numerous benefits for learners seeking to advance their careers or embark on new pathways. The employer-led qualifications allow the provision of work-ready skills and are rigorously approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education.

The qualifications are eligible for the same student finance as Degree level study, providing an accessible and effective route to acquiring valuable skills and enhancing employability.

Having already been rolled out in stages since 2022, HTQs are already available to study in South Yorkshire. To find out more about what is available within the South Yorkshire College Partnership Group, please visit the links below:
