Play area flats plan refused

PLANS to build four flats on a play area beside a 19th century former school were rejected over road safety concerns.

RJ Developments’ proposals for land next to the old Treeton primary would have resulted in vehicles reversing into Church Lane, near the Station Road junction.

Rotherham Council ruled that this could put other road users and pedestrians in danger.

Century Grove Ltd was granted permission to convert the former school itself into 14 apartments in 2021.

RMBC said the additional flats would harm the lives of future occupiers of that development by reducing the amenity space on the site.

It would also be “overbearing” to residents already living on the other side, restricting natural light for one neighbour’s living room.
