Why pearls can be a bride's best friend

THERE was a time when pearls were only associated with twin sets and the upper classes.

But they have proven a major hit on the High Street over recent years and look set to continue well on into 2011.

From pearl earrings and hairslides, to handbags and shoes, pearls are a leading trend for this Spring and Summer—which is reflected in the wide range of accessories available for brides on any budget.

You’ll find pearls on shoes, tiaras, fascinators, necklaces, veils, bracelets, brooches and even picture frames, to name a few.

But pearls do still have to be worn in the right way and it is important not to overstyle an outfit.

If your wedding dress is already heavily adorned with diamantes or beads, pearls may clash with your overall look.

It’s important to also remember that pearls do vary in colour and no matter how subtle the difference may look to you, a camera flash or natural light may show it up.

Pearls generally give a very distinguished and classic edge to an outfit and are often associated with a vintage look.

A plain string of pearls around the neck worn with a simple, plain gown, could look amazing - but remember to think about the length of the necklace against the neckline of your dress.

More and more pearl accessories feature a mixture of diamantes and crystal which can make an item look more modern, or vintage depending on the style.

If you go for something with a range of materials, make sure it matches all your other accessories- think bracelet, hair comb even shoes.

It makes sense, where possible, to purchase your accessories from a set so that you know they are an exact match.

You may be surprised by the cost of the most simplest of pearls but remember the more you pay, the better quality pearl you will get. Some budget buys do fade and scratch quickly leaving you with blemished items.
