Walking Festival features church walk

A FIVE churches walk organised as part of the Rotherham Walking Festival takes place next week.

Providing participants with the opportunity to visit churches in Wales, Harthill, Thorpe Salvin, South Anston and Todwick, the walk has been organised by the Rotherham Metro Walking Group as part of the festival.

The leisurely nine-and-a-half mile walk will depart from Wales Parish Church—grid reference SK477826—at 9.30am on Monday, May 10.

Another opportunity to get into the great outdoors is on Ramblers Get Walking Day on Saturday, May 22.

The day aims to promote walking as a healthy and pleasurable experience and the Stan Rouse Memorial Door Step Walk—named after Stan, who was a passionate walker and keen advocate for the protection of footpaths—is a five-mile easy walk.

Anyone wanting to join in should meet at 10am that day on the service road at the end of Aston Lane, near the junction with Sheffield Road, grid reference SK467856.

For those getting to the meeting point by public transport, the number 29 bus from Rotherham to Swallownest is the one to catch.
