VIDEO: Meet our Bluebell Wood buskers lined up for Wentworth Music Festival

The promising singer is one of eight acts picked to showcase their talents at this weekend’s Wentworth Music Festival.

The Advertiser teamed up with festival organisers Steve White and Toby Foster to run a competition for six 15-minute “busking” slots at the day-long event at Wentworth Woodhouse.

And the standard was so high the number of performers chosen has been extended to eight, with all proceeds from The Big Busk going to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in North Anston.

Sydney’s sister is regular visitor to the hospice and the teenager, who performs at Sydney Jai, has also written and performed a song for a young boy who died there last year.

Steve said he and Toby has been impressed by the “really high standard” of musicians who had put in their bid for a spot at the festival, which will also feature the likes of Heaven 17, T’Pau, Lemar, Dodgy and Tony Christie.

“There’s obviously a lot of untapped talent out there,” he said.

“It’s a shame in a way we didn’t think of this a few months ago because we could have put together a buskers’ stage but I think there will be enough going on at the festival anyway.

“Maybe that’s an idea for next year.”

Other acts lined up to play include 13-year-old Millie Middleton, Shira Colombick (16), brothers Lucas and Finley, teenager Georgia Oliver, duos Better than Six and Absent Average - seen performing below - and singer/guitarist/harmonica player Mike McDermott.

The forecast for the weekend is sunny, but Steve said he thought this week’s wet weather had put people off snapping up tickets.

The deadline for buying tickets has now been extended to Thursday, May 25.
