TV's Charles in town to value your antiques

Between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday, November 17, Clifton Park Museum will be holding a Valuation Day when anyone can get an expert's view on their individual treasures.

Charles Hanson, of Hanson’s Auctioneers of Derbyshire who previously worked for Christie’s in London, will be leading the valuation team.

He is best known for his regular appearances on the BBC's Bargain Hunt, Flog It and the new BBC show Antiques Road Trip and has overseen the sale of some bizarre items.

For example, at one of his auctions he sold a pair of Queen Victoria's bloomers for £5,000 and her stockings for £8,000.

A tiny creamware teapot from about 1765, discovered in a box of items in Derbyshire, went under his hammer for £69,000.

Hanson’s has also sold an original Sooty puppet. Sooty was sold for £3,000 to the owner of the Sooty copyright, who brought along Sue and Sweep to do the bidding.

In another auction, a rare Nelson log from the Battle of Trafalgar was sold for £8,000.

Anyone wanting an item valued will be able to buy tickets on the day. Tickets will cost £1 for the first three items and then £1 for each additional item.

Wendy Foster, visitor services manager at Clifton Park Museum, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for people to have their treasures valued by an expert.

“Having Charles Hanson here will be an added bonus.”
