Taking to the skies

SKYWATCHERS from an astronomy club have a busy month ahead in June.

Members of the Mexborough and Swinton Astronomical Society have lectures and community access events to look forward to.

The club is opening up its JA Hoober Observatory near Wentworth to the public on June 7 between 2pm and 5pm and on June 14 there will be an event called View The Sun As Never Before in The Courtyard at the RSPB Old Moor nature reserve from 10am to 3pm. This event is free but there is a charge for entering the reserve.

The society’s AGM is on June 25 in the group’s HQ at the meeting room in Swinton WMC, Station Street, Swinton, from 7.45pm to 10pm.

Members can attend a guide to equatorial mount telescopes at the meeting room on June 4 from 7.45pm to 10pm and other events at the same venue and times are a talk called Who Knows? by Paul Muffett on June 11, Images of the Universe 6 with Paul Money on June 18 and a talk by Allan Chapman on June 19.
