See nature exhibition bloom in Rotherham's urban gallery

AN ART exhibition celebrating nature and the outdoors has blossomed in urban Rotherham.

Land and Water has been curated by Derek Allport, former head of art and design at Rotherham College.

It features works by four painters and one photographer — Derek, Stephen Griffiths, Paul Dearden, Austin Pinkney and Rebecca Moss.

Hosted by the Old Market Gallery, the show was inspired by strip meadows on the central reservations of some of the borough’s dual carriageways.

Derek said: “The strips in Wickersley and elsewhere are fantastic. They’re sensational when the flowers bloom in a blaze of colour.

“Land and Water is a celebration of epic landscapes, nature and the great outdoors — lilies, ponds, blossoms and sea spray all feature.”

The exhibition at the town centre gallery is open between 10.30am and 3pm on Fridays and Saturdays, until May 26.
