Rufus Wainwright heads for South Yorkshire

ONE of modern music’s most mercurial talents, Rufus Wainwright, comes to South Yorkshire tomorrow.

Wainwright—son of Loudon Wainwright III and the late Kate McGarrigle and sister of Martha Wainwright—will be performing at Sheffield City Hall.

Set to be one of the highlights for this year’s musical calendar, Wainwright will be armed and dangerous with a piano, a microphone and his eagerly anticipated album All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu.

This is already set to be a big year for Rufus following the news of his acclaimed debut opera Prima Donna coming to London’s Sadler’s Wells for a series of shows  later this month.

It follows Prima Donna’s celebrated debut performances at Manchester’s International Festival last July.

Most recently recently Wainwright has been applying the finishing gloss to the new studio album, which is a solo piano/voice record.
