The Dearne Community Arts Festival took place at Dearne Playhouse on Friday and Saturday, with dozens of artists and performers exhibiting.

Painters and photographers shared the theatre with textile artists and dancers, many offering the chance for visitors to get hands-on.

A concert by Thurnscoe Harmonic Male Voice Choir was well-attended — while kids tried karaoke on the theatre’s front lawn.

Julie Turner, of Goldthorpe Pentecostal Community Church, was the festival’s lead organiser.

She said: “I’m hugely pleased with how the festival went. We think there were about 300 attending over the two days, which is great.

“People were very enthusiastic and feedback has been very positive — exhibitors and performers have said they would return next year.”

She added: “The feedback on our evaluation forms is that people would like this to become a regular event — and I certainly would.”

Dave Doyle and Krissy Moore, of swing dance collective RotherHop, taught taster classes on the theatre’s stage.

“We were pleased to be involved in the festival,” said Dave. “We had several people up and dancing — of all ages — and everyone seemed to have fun.

“It was great to see the talented people of the Dearne Valley display their hard work and receive their due credit.”

Organisers will meet next month to evaluate the festival’s success and potentially make arrangements for next year.
