On your marks for the Big Bop

A CHILDREN'S charity is calling on the people of Rotherham to put on their dancing shoes and join them for the Big Bop event.

Next Friday at 2.15pm the team at SAFE@LAST are asking people across the town to step outside their school or work place and dance to the hit song Cha Cha Slide.

Those taking part will be asked to wear a T-shirt designed by young people of Thrybergh School and Sports College which cost £2 and act as a ticket to take part in the fun.

Organiser Katie Eastburn of SAFE@LAST said: “We need as many people as possible to get together with other pupils, workmates, family and friends to step outside and listen in to RotherFM who will play the track live so you can have a boogie.

“Everyone knows the dance moves to the Cha Cha Slide song and if you don't, where have you been hiding?

“We hope that each participant will be sponsored to take part in the Big Bop and aim to raise a minimum of £5 sponsorship for the event too.

“All fund raised will go towards SAFE@LAST and enable us to carry on our vital work with children and young people in South Yorkshire.”

The idea came about through Katie's work with young people at Thrybergh School and Sports College.

She added: “This project has been designed by vulnerable young people to support other vulnerable young people.

”We would like to invite all of Rotherham borough to show their support for the kids who really are doing it for themselves.”

The event has been set up in partnership with RotherFed, the organisation which supports all of the town's tenants and residents' associations.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported the Big Bop and helped to organise the event,” said Katie.

SAFE@LAST helps and support young people under the age of 16 who, for a multitude of reasons, feel the need to run away from home.

The charity provides a range of support services including a refuge and 24-hour helpline.
