Music on the menu at revamped West Melton club

DEARNE Valley four-piece The Starkins are the latest act to take to the stage at a West Melton club where the new landlord is keen to put music on the menu.

Brothers Matt Elliss (guitar) and Jo Elliss (drums), plus bassist Will Campbell  and singer Andy Daniels will play the Westville next Friday as parth of the monthly band night organised by Ryan Guest.

Ryan said he had been keen to back local talent after taking over the Barnsley Road club last August and completing a full refurbishment including new outside decking.

“I’ve followed The Starkins for a while and I thought they’d be ideal for our band night,” he said.

“I wouldn’t say they are an indie band, they’re just a good, up-and-coming local band.”

The club has a band night on the last Friday of every month, with The Harringtons next on the list with a show booked for June 26, while there is also a solo artist every Saturday.

And the Westville, known locally as The Ville, is even more buzzing than ever as the moment as the club’s football team, who Ryan says are among his best customers, have just landed the Mexborough and District Premier League title — becoming the first Wath or West Melton side to achieve the feat.

The Starkins’ performance next Friday will start at 8.30pm. Entry is free.
