Growing strong for 2010 garden contest

GARDENERS are being invited to turn their green fingers to improving the look of their neighbourhoods as an annual competition returns.

The contest, open to 2010 Rotherham clients, aims to borders.

There will be categories for over and under-60s in all seven of the borough’s assembly areas—and a new award for the tallest sunflower.

Safer estates manager Andrew Leigh said: “Many of our customers take a great deal of pride in their gardens, which in turn improves the image of the area as a whole making Rotherham a more attractive place to live and visit.

“We decided to introduce the Gardening Competition as a way of recognising the hard work of these customers, which will hopefully encourage other budding gardeners to do the same.”

The closing date for entries is July 5 and £50 category winners will be entered into an overall competition for an additional £100 prize.

Judging will take place from July and entry forms are available now from Neighbourhood Offices, libraries or on-line www.2010rotherham.org.
