Girls rugby is theme of Cast play

A PLAY about a female rugby team will be hoping to score a hit when it comes to a South Yorkshire theatre later this month.

New play The Ruck will be at Doncaster’s Cast Theatre on Wednesday, September 20, and Thursday, September 21.

The story of Batley Girls Under 16 team travelling down under to Australia’s Gold Coast has been written by playwright Kevin Fegan.

The Ruck follows the young women as they overcome relationship problems, friendship dramas, racial discrimination, and hidden family secrets.

It is a fast-moving, physical play, written in verse and prose with raps and music.

Kevin Fegan said: “For me the true inspiration for the play are the girls and their families. Watching the girls line up for training on the beach, they personify girl power: all shapes and sizes, celebrating themselves and their gender.”

Tickets for The Ruck at Cast cost £16.50 for adults or £14.50 for concessions.

Both performances start at 7.30pm.
