German ale fest comes to Magna

BAVARIAN brews aplenty will be on tap at Magna’s upcoming Oktoberfest event — expected to be the biggest South Yorkshire has seen.

The German beer festival will be celebrated in style, with 12,000 pints of lager served in traditional stein mugs.

The two-night party, which will also feature frankfurters and an oompah band, is expected to attract up to 2,000 people.

Magna chief executive John Silker said: “We get thousands of people coming to our Christmas parties each year and we thought: ‘Why not organise some more events throughout the year?’

“We’ve got masses of space here to have a real party. This way you don’t have to go all the way to Munich for a good old knees-up.”

Revellers will also enjoy games and a disco, as well as a fancy dress contest to find the best dressed Bavarian.

Local beauties will be setting a high standard, including current and former Miss South Yorkshire winners.

The event runs from 6pm to midnight on Friday, October 3, and 5pm to midnight on Saturday, October 4.

Entry-only tickets cost £5 each, while £20 buys a Bierkeller package with four beers and food included.

Special beer buses will operate between Magna, Meadowhall and Rotherham town centre on both evenings.
