Does The Jump winner Spencer owe his success to Rotherham roots?

NEVER mind Made in Chelsea, the winner of Channel 4’s The Jump was at least in part made in Rotherham.

Spencer Matthews, the reality TV star, emerged triumphant from the field of celebrities in the winter sports competition on Sunday.

And he may put some of his courageous success on the ski-jump and slalom show down to true Northern grit.

Spencer’s father David reportedly made millions selling cars after growing up in a Rotherham village and started his working life as a trainee mechanic.

And Spencer himself revealed his South Yorkshire roots in an interview with the Metro newspaper, saying: “My dad is a mechanic from Sheffield and my grandmother lives in Rotherham, bless her.”

He later told gossip site CelebsNow: “I’m originally from Sheffield, so, of course, I’ve had crisp sandwiches.

“I got sent to a posh school – Eton – so that’s why I speak like this. I’m actually northern at heart.”
