Nigel Pivaro, who played the wayward son of Corrie couple Jack and Vera Duckworth on and off for almost 30 years, is taking on the role of Fleshcreep in the Rotherham Civic show Jack and the Beanstalk.

Nigel and his castmates were out and about in town meeting shoppers on Tuesday to mark tickets for the festive production going on sale.

Hollyoaks fans are in for a treat as fellow soapstar Andrew McGuire is appearing as Jack, while Scottish singer and experienced actor Rosie Houlton will play Princess Jill.

Delivering the comic relief will be Danny Mills as Dame Trott and children’s TV veteran Bippo as Silly Billy.

Rotherham Theatres manager Jo Longworth said she was delighted to welcome Nigel for this year’s production.

“We’re thrilled to have secured Nigel in Rotherham’s pantomime,” she said. “He is one of Coronation Street’s legendary characters.

“After appearing in 15 pantomimes, he’s perfect for the role of the panto villain Fleshcreep.

“We cannot wait to see Nigel bring the role of the panto baddie to life and he will be fabulous at getting the audience to join in with plenty of booing and hissing.”

Rotherham Borough Council’s Cabinet member for neighbourhoods and cultural services, Cllr Taiba Yasseen, said: “This year’s pantomime promises to be the best one ever with the fantastic combination of Nigel, Andrew, Rosie, Danny, Bippo and Natalie, a live band and lots of audience interaction throughout this spectacular production.

“This show will be a very special experience for Rotherham panto fans.”

Shone Productions, who also put on last year’s successful Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, are at the helm again.

The show — filled with song and dance routines, audience interaction and comedy — debuts on November 30 and runs until Sunday, January 7.

Tickets are on sale now priced from £11 from the box office on 01709 823621 or at rotherhamtheatres.co.uk.
