COULD you be the next Ed Sheeran?

Festival organisers and radio DJs Steve White and Toby Foster are teaming up with the Advertiser to uncover a wealth of new acoustic talents.

The Wentworth Music Festival will feature the launch of the Big Busk Big Busk For Bluebell Wood, which will give buskers the chance to perform for 15 minutes between sets by the likes of Tony Christie (pictured), T’Pau, Lemar and Heaven 17.

All proceeds will go to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, the festival’s chosen charity.

The acts selected will perform in the beer tent at the Wentworth Woodhouse festival site and could end up singing and playing for a crowd of hundreds.

Busking can lead to great things – just ask ex-street singer turned chart-topper Ed, or Wickersley School student Alfie Sheard (pictured below), who ended up being invited onto The Ellen DeGeneres Show after clocking up millions of YouTube views for his shopping precinct performances.

Toby is launching an appeal through the Advertiser for would-be stars to send in clips of them in action, which will be featured on the festival’s Facebook page.

A panel of judges will then get together to choose the best of the bunch to perform at the festival on Sunday, May 28.

As well as a captive audience, the lucky buskers picked will also get free entry to the whole event, which runs from noon until 9.30pm.

Toby said: “We want to hear from people who want to come along and busk in the beer tent when there’s a break in the music on the main stage.

“There will be slots for about half-a-dozen buskers and someone from Bluebell Wood will be there shaking a bucket.

“You never know, we might find the next Ed Sheeran.”

Entries should be sent by Facebook message to the Wentworth Music Festival page or email them [email protected] by Monday, May 15, at 5pm.

Tickets are on sale until a week before the festival at http://www.wentworthmusicfestival.co.uk/ priced £35 for adults and £10 for children.
