Community arts festival under way this weekend
Krissy and Dave of RotherHop demonstrate some dance moves.

A COMMUNITY festival welcomes visitors to sample arts, crafts and dance in Goldthorpe this weekend.

Dearne Community Arts Festival rund today (Friday) and Saturday, in and around Dearne Playhouse.

Exhibitors will demonstrate their creative passions with galleries and have-a-go classes, with something to suit all tastes.

In a marquee outside the theatre, Dearne Valley Camera Club and local artists will display their work.

On Saturday they will be joined by a model aircraft club and a karaoke session.

Indoors will be a gallery of paintings — acrylic, oil, graffiti, face and body — showcasing the talent of Dearne Valley artists.

Crafts on display will include soft furnishing, mask-making, cross-stitch and cake decoration, alongside poetry and more photography.

Other demonstrations will include floristy, spinning, massage and creative writing — led by poet Ian McMillan, the Bard of Barnsley.

Singing, music and dance performances will grace the theatre’s stage — including two have-a-go swing dance workshops from RotherHop.

The Rotherham-based dance collective invites everyone to try a sequence dance at 1pm on Friday and some partner dance at 3.30pm on Saturday.
