Bid to make Rotherham festival best ever

This year's One Town One Community Diversity Festival, which will be held on September 11 and 12 at Clifton Park, gives a stage to the variety of music, dance and song from people in and around Rotherham.

Nkululeko Sibanda, chairman of the Rotherham Diversity and Culture Group, said: “The festival showcases some of the very best and most diverse musical talent that Rotherham has to offer. 

“Music crosses cultural barriers and the festival is a great opportunity for those who love music to come together and gain a better understanding of each other's cultures and traditions. 

“Every year, the festival just gets bigger and better and we welcome anyone who has a talent for music or song to get in-touch and find out how they could be included in the programme line up.”

Now in its sixth year, visitors to the festival can take listen to performances as well as browse the tents where musicians, singers and songwriters are based.

This year, the One Town One Community and Shine Rotherham People songs will be performed by Rotherham singer/songwriter Steph Little. She will be joined by youth and community groups from across the borough.

Cllr Mahroof Hussain, Cabinet member for Community Development and Engagement, said: “We are pleased to be supporting the Diversity Festival again as it is one of the highlights of the music calendar here in Rotherham. 

“Every year it is so exciting to see the talent and excitement that local people have about performing and that enthusiasm is infectious and creates a great sense of belonging and togetherness, which is fantastic. 

“We are looking forward to even more local musicians and singers getting involved this year.”
