Art ROARs into Rotherham

ARTISTS great and small filled an old school with works in a wide range of media last week.

Famous names joined local talent in exhibiting at Talkex17, a exhibition of artists from around the country.

All have previously given a ROAR Talk — monthly arts lectures and presentations held in Rotherham.

Their works graced St Ann’s Building, the former school on St Leonards Road recently renovated by ROAR.

Exhibitors included photographer Anna Kozak, writer Tair Rafiq and carnival organiser Vicky Hilton.

Visitors include instrument-makers Experimental Sonic Machines and multimedia artist Leigh de Vries.

Curator Matt Butt said: “The aim of the ROAR Talks was to encourage local artists to talk about their work and to bring as diverse a range of artists to Rotherham as possible, to share their practice and inspire.

“This exhibition brings together 28 of the 41 artists who have given talks over four years — many of whom came just for the short talk but have stayed connected with Rotherham ever since.

“We are extremely excited to invite these local, national and international artists back to share their work in this exhibition of wildly diverse individuals.”
