Free flu jabs from December

FLU vaccinations will soon be made available to residents in Rotherham aged between 50 and 64 as the fight to beat the winter bug continues.

The government confirmed last week that adults over the age of 50 would be able to get their free flu jab from December, as part of their next phase of this year’s expanded vaccination programme.

Sue Cassin, chief nurse at NHS Rotherham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said residents in this age bracket would be contacted directly by their respective GPs about the vaccinations when their additional stocks arrive.

She added: “Following the confirmation last week that the flu vaccine for people aged between 50-64 years will be made available, the CCG are working with our GPs, pharmacy and other colleagues across Rotherham to ensure successful delivery of the vaccination.

“When the vaccine is available in Rotherham, patients will be contacted and provided with information on dates and venues of where they can access the vaccine.

“In the mean time, I would encourage patients not to contact their GP practice regarding the vaccine availability, so that practices can make sure that ill patients get the help they need.”
