THURCROFT PARISH COUNCIL: Cllr Jed Nightingale welcomed James Dibaj from RMBC who spoke regarding the present state of affairs on the land at Zamour Crescent. The minutes of the meeting on November 19 were approved. Resolved that the minutes of the meeting on October 29 be approved. Resolved that information on Lost Chord dementia charity Festive Favourites event All Saints Church, Laughton en le Morthen on December 15 be noted. Resolved that the newsletter from Bold as Brass – CISWO be referred to the chairman of the council. Resolved that the requirement for the council not to be registered as a food business due to its current activity be noted. Laughton Common Update – members were appraised of the successful consultation meeting held at Laughton Junior School and the subsequent site meeting to discuss the potential position of the equipment. Potential realistic timescales for the completion of the scheme would be reported to the next meeting of the council. Mr P Street, Laughton Common resident, stated his support for the initiative but questioned the apparent lack of support from RMBC for Laughton Common notwithstanding the ongoing valued advice and guidance received from Stuart Kenny of RMBC. Resolved that Thurcroft Parish Council note the successful community engagement and commend Cllrs Alsop and Ronksley for their continued efforts. Land at Zamour Crescent – reference was made to a meeting held November 16 between the chairman and clerk of the council, Mrs Harper and Mr Yates, and James Dibaj of RMBC. James notified the meeting that Totally Modular had now withdrawn its offer but further discussions were ongoing with Strategic Team Group and RMBC. Resolved that the information be noted. It was resolved that the information from YLCA correspondence be received. Clerks Report – gave a report on his meeting with Community Connectors, which is a volunteer outreach project to help make advice and information more accessible to older people in Rotherham. It will also be involved in fundraising and promoting Age UK Rotherham services. EngAge Rotherham offers a range of other services to help keep people connected and engaged with their communities. They are looking for people to take the role of community connectors to help give advice, fundraise and promote Age UK Rotherham, call 01709 910699. Requests for financial assistance from Jessica Dee Walker, Wales High School and Mayor’s Charity Committee. A list of events received from Rotherham Hospice. Thurcroft Cemetery – there has been more wilful damage and vandalism with signs stolen from the cremation area in Thurcroft Cemetery and making miniature graves, taking up the space of three graves, which does not leave room for the appropriate 12” x 12” spaces. Anyone found damaging this area will be banned from the cemetery and prosecuted. The next parish council meeting will be on February 25 6.30pm.

 

THURCROFT WELFARE COMMUNITY HALL BOWLING CLUB: The General Registration Meeting on February 21 has been rearranged to February 14. This was agreed at the AGM and is to accommodate the collection of fees so the club can pay its club registration to the Maltby and District Association. At this meeting the club will also be giving in its team preference and arranging a captain’s selection meeting prior to the start of the season. The club is looking for new members who should attend this meeting. The club has qualified bowling coaches and provides all equipment along with free training sessions on Saturdays from May through to the end of August 10.30am-noon. Once someone has registered with the British Crown Green Association and the South Yorkshire Grown Green Bowling Association (£32.10) for the first year, members only pay club fees which are currently £45 for adults and £5 for under 16s. For this, members can bowl from 10.30am until dark, competitive matches allowing. Contact club secretary Alan Bucknall 01709 542050.

 

CRAFT GROUP: 52 members attended, three were knitting, two sewing, two crocheting, nine making bracelets, four worked on craft kits, three quilling, two worked on parchment, seven worked on die cutting machines, six on decoupage, eight putting general cards together, three making ear-rings and three rubber stamping.

 

LITTLE SAINTS: Moira, Irene and Marie assisted the little ones as they played with Clipo books and made face puppets on paper plates.

 

FRIDAY CLUB: Moira, Irene, Liam and mums assisted the children making palm trees from cardboard tubes, with green palm leaves and cut out monkeys climbing the trees. They also painted faces of monkeys, elephants and tigers on sticks. Others played table games or painted in small pictures of butterflies, monkeys, snakes and flowers.

 

ALZHEIMER’S AND DEMENTIA MEMORY CAFÉ: Sandra Blockley held a coffee morning in the church room. Meet on Tuesday at Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall, Green Arbour Road 1.30-3.30pm.

 

ROTHER VALE COMMUNITY BAND: The brass band provides an opportunity for anyone who wishes to play or learn a brass instrument. The band practises every Saturday at Thurcroft Parish Church 9.30-11am. The band will provide newcomers with a brass instrument and expert tuition for a weekly subscription of £2. Contact Pam 07759 496810. THURCROFT FRIDAY CIRCLE: The next meeting on February 12 at the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall, Green Arbour Road 1.30-3.30pm will include Geoff Smith from Wiltshire Foods.

THURCROFT WALK AND TALK: Met on January 27 when participants walked approximately 2.5 miles from Dinnington Bus Station car park. The next walk is on February 10, approximately five miles on the Manvers Lake Circular, led by Sue and Gordon Haywood, meet RSPB Old Moor, Wath-on-Dearne S73 OYF.

 

ST SIMON AND ST JUDE’S PARISH CHURCH: Rev Tim Leach led the service for January 27 and Rev John Barrett for January 31’s service. The Lent Group starts on February 17 11am after the service and coffee, and will run for six weeks. Coffee morning will start on February 26 in church 10am. The car boot/table top sales start again in March.

 

THURCROFT WELFARE BAND: The band had a successful weekend at Butlins, Skegness, competing with ten other bands in the fourth section. The band finished fifth overall and won the NACODS Trophy as the highest finishing miner’s band. The band will be attending the Yorkshire Brass Band Championships in Bradford on March 5-6. The band practises each Tuesday and Thursday 7.15pm.
