Child sex abuse trial: Victim "recognised Rotherham MP or councillor at rape house"

AN ALLEGED multiple rape victim told a court she saw a Rotherham MP or councillor at the house where she claims she was raped while “wasted” on drugs.

The victim, said to have been aged 17 at the time she would be driven to a house in Masbrough several times a month, where she would be drugged and raped, Sheffield Crown Court was told.

She said she saw someone she recognised as a local politician while at the house.

"He was an Asian bloke who was an MP or something in Rotherham,” the woman said in an interview played to Sheffield Crown Court today

“I think I remember someone saying he was related to Ash (defendant Arshid Hussain) and I’m sure I saw him in that house.

“I’ve seen him on the telly and I’m sure I heard something at the taxi rank about him being voted in.”

She added that she could not identify the politician, adding: “It was a long time ago and I was taking lots and lots and lots of drugs to try and forget about it.”

Hussain, of East Cowick, Goole — who is one of five men and two women on trial — denies 29 sex crimes.

The trial continues.
