Little Libby's long locks gone in a snip

SHE waited a whole year for a haircut, so when little Libby Pitchford had her long locks chopped she made it worthwhile.

Libby (5) grew her hair for a year before donating eight inches to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for poorly children.

The Listerdale Primary School pupil faced the hairdresser’s scissors at Hair and Beauty at Sorby’s, in Wickersley on Saturday.

Proud mum Sarah said: “It went really well. We were expecting tears but thankfully there weren’t any.

“A relative did it a few years ago and when I explained why she’d done it Libby said she wanted to do the same.

“I told her she’d need to let her hair grow first and Saturday was the first time she’d had it cut in a year.

“We’re very proud of her for wanting to do it and then actually following it through.”

Libby’s school has also organised a non-uniform day to top up funds for the charity.

Mrs Pitchford has also organised a family fun day at the Brush and Easel pub in Flanderwell on Saturday.

The event will run from noon until 4pm and include a bouncy castle, market stalls and activities for children.

Mrs Pitchford said: “We have set ourselves a target of £350 because that is how much it costs the trust to make a wig.

“We’ve raised about £150 so far and with the school non-uniform day and the pub fun day, I think we should raise more than £350.”
