Good away point for Millers

The midfielder's fifth goal of the season and an own goal threatened to earn all three points but Anthony Pilkington’s brace ensured the hosts a share of the spoils at 2-2 despite them ending the match with ten men.

Fielding new loan signing Chris Burke on the right flank, Rotherham were second best in the first half.

It still took Cardiff 23 minutes to force Lee Camp into his first serious save, a smart stop with his legs from Pilkington, but the forward was not to be denied moments later when he was slipped through and clipped the ball in off a post.

Rotherham pressed up to half time without threatening a goal until Newell drew them level, latching onto a ball down the  left and then stretching to hook in from an angle.

The goal altered the mood in the dressing room during the break and the turnaround was completed just after the restart. Newell  swung in a corner and Pilkington planted the ball high past his own goalkeeper David Marshall.

Burke forced a parry in a good spell for Rotherham before Pilkingon atoned with an equaliser on the hour, again stealing in to lift the ball past the exposed Camp.

Luciano Becchio, back with the Millers for a second spell, was introduced to the action for the last 20 minutes. Cardiff missed two big chances but were rocked back five minutes from time when Lee Peltier picked up a second yellow card and was dismissed.

In the end the Millers were decent value for the draw and stand a point above the Championship safety line.
