LICENSED TO PREACH: Former curate at St Nicholas Parish Church, Rev Paul Savage, will be licensed as priest in charge of the Ascension Team, Leicester at a service on Wednesday. Bishop Christopher will conduct the service at St Mary’s at Humberstone 7.30pm. Churchgoers from the River Idle Benefice that includes the five parish churches at Bawtry, Misson, Austerfield, Everton and Mattersey will be attending the event.

NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN: Members of Bawtry Town Council’s Neighbourhood Plan steering group are making progress towards the formation of a comprehensive plan for the town. Answers in the questionnaire that was distributed to all residents are being assessed. The council has appealed for more residents to get involved so that a better cross-section of the views of Bawtry people can be ascertained. The Bawtry community will have a special Neighbourhood Plan awareness day in the New Year aimed at encouraging further individual and group participation.

CHARITY LIFT OFF: The annual hoisting of a line of old brassieres takes place in The Courtyard off High Street on October 22. The event, co-ordinated by Bawtry Retail Association and local charity Firefly, marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The bra bunting, formed out of unwanted undergarments that have been donated, will be lifted into position by local celebrities outside Emily Harbon’s and She Knows lingerie boutique and it will remain there for a week after which the bras will be recycled. All funds raised will be divided between Breast Cancer Care and Firefly, the Doncaster-based charity that that supports local people who have been diagnosed with cancer. Members of BRA have also invited town shops and businesses to decorate their premises on what is now known as the annual Pink Thursday.

HANDY PLAYERS: Shirley Moorman, Elsie Foot, Joan Wilkinson, Joe Foot, Fred Pollard, Ellis Nottingham, Dora Littlewood and Carol Day showed what handy players they are at the latest Thursday evening whist drive in the New Hall. Dora Littlewood and Judith Black collected raffle prizes.

ART EXHIBITION: Finningley Art and Social Club are currently mounting their annual display of examples of their work in watercolour, pastels and acrylics at an exhibition in Bawtry Community Library throughout October. The club meets every Thursday in Finningley Village Hall 1-3pm. There is no formal tuition with members giving each other advice. They have occasional demonstrations and workshops conducted by visiting artists and the group goes out to lunch each month. Contact club secretary Maureen Young 01302 730559.
