Aidy White joins Barnsley on loan

ROTHERHAM United utility man Aidy White has joined League One side Barnsley on loan until January.

White signed for the Millers in the summer after being released by Championship rivals Leeds United, but has struggled to break into the first team.

He came up through the Leeds academy when Rotherham manager Neil Redfearn was in charge of the youth set-up at Elland Road.

Comfortable at left back or left midfield, White is known for his pace, but has had limited opportunities to show the Millers' faithful his full capabilities, making just nine appearances so far.

Redfearn said: “It is important that the players who haven’t had a clear sight of the first team get regular competitive football.

“If that means going out to get some games then so be it, because if we need to be able to call on them, we know that they have been out playing at a good level.

“Aidy has done that and we will be keeping a close eye on his progress."

It was reported last week that four members of Rotherham United's squad were available to leave and it is thought White was one of those.

Yesterday, Redfearn made his first permanent signing as Millers boss, bringing in former Newcastle United and Sheffield Wednesday striker Leon Best on a deal until the end of the season.
