RSPB RECENT SIGHTINGS: In the tree sparrow farm it was very busy with sightings of redpoll, long-tailed tits, bullfinches, chaffinches, robins, dunnocks, magpies, blue tits, great tits, greenfinches, goldfinches, tree sparrows, reed buntings, a stock dove, a song thrush, wood pigeons, female brambling, blackbirds, pheasants, a stoat and a field vole. It has recently been very good for great spotted woodpecker sightings. There were frequent views of them (sometimes two at the same time) in the bird garden. A kingfisher was sighted at the reedbed screen. On Green Lane there were robins, a goldcrest, dunnocks and a flock of long-tailed tits. On the Mere were quite a number of goosander, a drake goldeneye, a drake pintail, cormorants, little grebes, a great crested grebe, wigeon, teal, shoveler, mute swans and lots of coots. Two further goldeneyes were reported from Wath Ings, a male and a female. Two golden plover also reported in the sightings book, but of no fixed abode. The bird garden has also been a busy place recently. It had many of the same sightings as from the tree sparrow farm but also a willow tit and the great spotted woodpeckers.
