£190 bill for fly-tipper who dumped rubbish on road

A MAN who was found to have dumped waste on the road outside a Rotherham recycling centre has been ordered to pay £190 in fines and court costs.

Maurice Battye, of Thornberry Road, Wakefield, pleaded guilty at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court to illegally tipping the waste on Old Warren Vale.

The court heard that a Rotherham Borough Council environmental health officer found items including a large cardboard box and broken timber and metal bench dumped outside the household waste recycling centre, which was shut at the time.

Investigations traced the waste as belonging to a resident of Claypit Lane, Rawmarsh.

The householder told officers that he had asked his friend, Battye, to remove the waste from his property.

When Battye was interviewed, he admitting dumping the waste, and was issued with a fixed penalty notice for the fly-tipping offence.

He was taken to court when the fixed penalty was not paid within 14 days.

Battye admitted the offence before Rotherham Magistrates and was ordered to pay a fine of £80, plus £90 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
