CRAFT GROUP: Meetings recommenced on Mondays in the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall, Green Arbour Road 1.10-3.30pm.

 

LITTLE SAINTS: Returned January 4 1.15-2.45pm at St Simon and St Jude’s Parish Church.

 

FRIDAY CLUB: Recommenced January 5 5-6pm in St Simon and St Jude’s Church.

THURCROFT COLLIERY AND VILLAGE WEBSITE: Gillian Rider has sent photos of Thurcroft schoolchildren from the 1960s including a nativity scene, several with pupils dressed in costume for different plays and a newspaper cutting of the children who would be moving to Wales High School the following term, which includes Gillian Holdsworth, David Fretwell, Lynne Slack, Paul Rider, John Appleyard, Bernard Bulmer, Melanie Holding and Jackie Roberts. THURCROFT WALK AND TALK: January 13 – approximately five miles by the Chesterfield Canal, leader Carole Maloney, meet Anston Parish Hall in North Anston S25 4DL.

 

THURCROFT WELFARE BAND: The band will be at the Butlin’s Mineworkers Open National Brass Band Festival January 15-18 and is competing in the Yorkshire Brass Band Championships in Bradford on March 5-6. The band practises each Tuesday and Thursday 7.15pm.

 

THURCROFT BIG LOCAL: People involved in a Big Local Partnership who have a plan and resources but whose volunteers cannot deliver everything may find a course organised by Thurcroft Big Local Partnership of help. The short course, Commissioning and Project Management, is for resident volunteers and has been organised in collaboration with Northern College with financial support from the Local Trust. Sessions are at St Simon and St Jude’s Church in Thurcroft on Monday evenings, free to attend if booked in advance. The first session, An Introduction to Project Management and Commissioning, is on January 18 6-8.30pm. The second session on February 15 6-8.30pm is about Creating Action Plans – Delivering Tenders. The final session, Evaluations and Ways Forward, is at 6-8.30pm on March 14.
