Learning more about heroine Anne Frank

YOUNG people from schools across Rotherham are getting behind a major new exhibition on the life of Anne Frank.

The renowned Anne Frank and You exhibition will be coming to the Gallery at Riverside House from February 17 and local schools are doing their bit to get involved.

Seventy young ambassadors from schools across Rotherham are being trained to carry out tours of the exhibition and tell people the background of Anne’s story.

Moneeb Malik, (13), one of the young ambassadors from Oakwood High School, said: “This has been a great experience for us — we had to teach Herringthorpe Junior School pupils, which was a pleasure.

“I hope we get to do this again and would like to say a big thank you to the Anne Frank Trust for giving up their time and coming to Oakwood High School to teach us about her so we could pass on the knowledge we had learned to other students.”

The exhibition draws on themes from Anne Frank’s diary, such as racial hatred and the value of freedom, as well as exploring more recent issues around tolerance and cultural identity against the backdrop of Anne's story.

It also includes poignant personal photos of Anne and her sister, replica artefacts from Anne's life and displays of more recent issues of identity and prejudice such as the civil rights movement in the USA and the story of Malala Yousafzai.

The free exhibition runs until March 30.
