KIVETON PARK INDEPENDENT ADVICE CENTRE: A drop-in session, with no appointment necessary, will be held on Thursday 9-11.30am at The Arnold Centre in Rotherham (telephone for details). To contact (office hours) 01909 773966. The advice centre believes there is a demand for appointments on a Saturday for clients who are unable to attend weekday appointments due to employment, child care or transport issues so there will be a number of case-work type appointments on a Saturday.

ROTHERHAM CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU: Rotherham CAB has employed more debt advisers. The CAB won extra funding from the Money Advice Service which it is using to improve its debt provision. The CAB has two more debt workers and more support staff at the Rain Building next to the indoor market on Eastwood Lane, Rotherham. If people can’t get there they can see an adviser at one of 14 debt outreaches across the community. People can see a debt adviser on Saturday 10am-noon at a debt drop-in at the Rain Building. ROTHERHAM SOCIETY OF ARTISTS: Meet at Unity Centre, St Leonard’s Road on Fridays 7-9pm. Membership £30 per year, visitors £5 per session. FOCUS DISABLED ROTHERHAM: FDR has been set up after a three month trial in Aston cum Aughton which was successful in finding out any problems that exist in the district that disabled people incur. It was originally tried by identifying registered disabled people but there are equally people that are not registered. Most organisations deal with Rotherham as a whole but when talking to disabled people and carers it has been shown that as individuals the complainants are a sole individual voice. It is proposed that a group be set up in each individual district in Rotherham, a voluntary group run by people from that area that are disabled, carers or volunteers. With being from that district they can identify with the problems, interact with clients and identify with people who want help dealing with councils and signpost them to the various bodies that already exist around Rotherham and South Yorkshire. Community groups may already exist that can extend their cover to include disabled people. There may be individuals that can volunteer either for their area or another. PEOPLE OF POWER COMMUNITY OUTREACH GROUP: Meet on first Tuesday of month at Elim Centre, Effingham Street, to share sports, hobbies and life skills and to hear a presentation/debate on issues that affect the physical, mental and spiritual well-being people who live and work in Rotherham. Meetings free and open to everyone.

ROTHERHAM METRO RAMBLERS: October 24 – choice of two walks: a moderate 10 mile linear walk from Conisborough to Thrybergh Country Park through Old Denaby and Ravenfield Ponds, leader Dave Cook 07717497684, meet 10am Conisborough Parish Church, park at Thrybergh Country Park then catch X78 bus 10am to Conisbrough or catch X78 from Rotherham; a leisurely five mile circular walk taking in Waverley, Treeton Dyke and Hail Mary Wood, leader Christine Smith 01709 367109, meet 10am Wasfield Lane, Treeton near cricket club. ROTHERHAM ROTARY CLUB: At the last meeting, there was a demonstration of Yorkshire Finest Foods with samples from Richard McWhinney.

ROTHERHAM FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY: The October meeting was a members workshop held in the Liberty Church, Station Road, Masbrough when family history problems were discussed. On October 24 10am-3pm the society will have a stall at the Heritage Fair in Rotherham Minster. The November meeting will take place at the Liberty Church on November 5 7pm and the speaker will be Tim Brannen.
