PARISH COUNCIL: At the recent meeting councillors present were: Cllr G Cooper, Cllr P DeVeaux, Cllr D Healy, Cllr D Hughes, Cllr G Marsh, Cllr A Roddison, Cllr D Vickers, Cllr Wilkinson, clerk A Harrison. The meeting was chaired by D Hughes. Prior to the meeting, Dave Rayworth from TAD Architects outlined the options for procurement that were available for the Memorial Hall refurbishment. The minutes were approved. Matters Arising were none. Bank Reconciliation, Budget Monitoring and Monthly Accounts were resolved. In Public Discussion, two members of the public raised concerns about the proposed development RB2016/0199 which is to add a hot food takeaway to the existing convenience store on Main Street. Although some residents had received notification, members were not in receipt of the information. The clerk is to seek an extension to the consultation period with RMBC so that the matter can be added to the agenda for the next meeting. Cllr Roddison will liaise with nearby residents to log any concerns and check their validity against planning regulations. In Audit, members agreed to opt into the External Audit Arrangement which provides appointed auditors for five years. In Borough Councillors, it was reported that the Langtree development at Blue Mans Way had been refused planning permission. The recent police monitoring of the traffic concerns on Sheffield Lane was reported by South Yorkshire Police as a successful information exercise although no fines were issued. RMBC will look into additional signage and road markings. Matters reported were an unfitted post/bollard at High Hazel Crescent, litter around the school and at the bus stop opposite JTF, the roadworks at Morrison’s including closure of footpaths and fly-tipping. Members were informed of a proposed local history day at Mere Brow Residents Centre and Cllr Roddison is to liaise with the history group to determine the options. No further matters were raised in Highways. In Recreation Grounds, no matters were raised for Highfield View or Poplar Way. On the Recreation Ground, Cllr Marsh reported that following his monitoring of the reported dog mess that it wasn’t a noticeable concern on the play park or football pitches. The situation is to be further reviewed with additional fencing to be considered to restrict access points. For the Memorial Hall, members agreed to adopt the YORbuild framework option. The design for an office at the front of the building was approved. It is hoped that final plans can be ready for the April meeting.  In Parish Matters, Cllrs Cooper and DeVeaux updated the progress of the Christmas event at the Kiln and reported that Julie Barnett, neighbourhood development officer, had agreed to come aboard to promote community cohesion. A confidential session was then declared for members to be updated on staffing issues. Cllr Cater was added to the staffing committee and they will meet and report to all members at the April meeting. In Planning Applications, no adverse comments were raised. Members were appraised of a recent application to buy a strip of development land to the rear of Station Road. The chairman announced that clerk Angela Harrison is to move to another council. The next meeting is April 6.

 

MEMORIAL HALL: There are several activities throughout the week including Scouts, Yoga, Weight Watchers and indoor bowls. CATCLIFFE SCHOOL: On March 17 there will be an Easter special lunch menu.  KS1 and KS2 have the chance to win some prizes in the decorate an egg competition.  The only rule is that the egg to be decorated must be hard-boiled. Entries must be in by Thursday. All classes took part in World Book Day by dressing up as storybook heroes and other well-known characters. Activities were based around these themes.  Class 2 had fun when a pygmy hedgehog visited the school for a topic about the suitability of certain wild animals as pets. Other classes produced work around the hedgehog experience including educational games and video presentations. At the opposite end of the scale, two alpacas paid a visit. ST MARY’S CHURCH: Easter events include a Maundy family service including a supper bring and share on March 24 6.30pm. On Easter Sunday, March 27, there is a family Communion service 10.30am. On March 19, there will be a Messy Church 3.30pm. Games, activities, crafts for everyone and a meal is included. All free except for a donation. Contact Jean Dermaine 01709 837470.
