Help on offer to cut energy bills, Rotherham residents told

RESIDENTS in Rotherham can get help to cut their gas and electric bills by an average of £200.

Citizens Advice Rotherham and District is running Energy Best Deal sessions which help people understand how to compare energy prices, negotiate with providers and cut down how much energy they use.

Last year, over 9,000 people from across the UK attended an Energy Best Deal session, including 98 consumers in Rotherham.

People who took steps to cut their bills following the advice they received in the sessions expected to save an average of £200, with one person looking to save as much as £1,040.

Energy Best Deal is a project run by Citizens Advice and Ofgem and funded by energy companies.

This year Energy Best Deal has secured a £200,000 increase in funding, raising the total to £1.4 million.

People attending group sessions who find they need further help can ask for one-on-one sessions under Energy Best Deal Extra.

Callum Dixon, advice services manager at Citizens Advice Rotherham and District said: “Energy Best Deal can help people keep their homes warm and their bills affordable this winter.

“Advisers are on hand across Rotherham to help people cut their gas and electricity costs by comparing prices and negotiating with their suppliers.

“Anyone wishing to attend an Energy Best Deal session or wanting help managing their finances can get in touch with your local Citizens Advice.”

As well as helping people with their bills, last year Energy Best Deal trained over 4,900 frontline staff working with people at risk of fuel poverty.

Citizens Advice estimate that each frontline worker will use the information they have learned to help an average of 15 people over the year.
